Kezner ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Kezner brings the art of DJing back to a time when it really was just
about the music. It’s easy to get the role of a good DJ lost amid the
prevalence of today’s pretentious clubs and bottle service mentality,
but music is what makes the dance floor move. Looking back to the
dawning of dance music and its most famous clubs and DJs there was
just one simple formula for success: great music, good people,
enthusiasm and most importantly, unpredictability.
Those who have witnessed a Kezner DJ set realize that he’s a true
throwback to dance music’s most exciting times. The versatile DJ drops
anything from house to breaks and everything in between; all the while
jumping around the DJ booth as if caught in his own personal mosh pit.
Kezner’s eclectic tastes are influenced by a wide cross section of
electronic music from industrial pioneers like Front 242 to beloved
dance music legends Underworld. These were the artists that originally
inspired Kezner to DJ and produce electronic music, and the hard and
brooding style translates through though his sets to the fans.
Kezner became fully immersed and obsessed with the electronic music
scene while a student at Marshall University. It was during this time
that he purchased his first set of turntables and he became a regular
vinyl shopper at KnightTime Music in Milton, West Virginia. In 1999,
Kezner also started attending his first Playloop promoted parties and
befriended DJ Everyday and Steve Waller. In 2002, Kezner met Justin
Paul and started DJing and presenting live video projections at the
popular Playloop parties. Kezner eventually became a resident DJ in
Huntington, West Virginia and formed electronic music production duo
Locality with his friend DJ Everyday. As a solo producer, Kezner’s
vast knowledge of both digital and analog production techniques
results in a sound that’s full of warmth and with a soulful bite
that’s rarely achieved with computers alone.
Now based in Philadelphia, Kezner is part of the city’s flourishing
new dance scene and a recording artist for hot young label Playloop
Records. Recent Kezner tracks “Assimilated” and “If The Sun Sets” have
generated a wealth of underground buzz for a sound that perfectly
combines thick and heavy live bass with a slick electronic undertone.
These tracks are currently featured on Playloop’s first label
compilation Get Into The Loop Volume 1 and will be included on
Kezner’s forthcoming artist album, scheduled for release later this
summer.
